HOW
DOES COACHING WORK?
Most
people aren't aware that coaching can take place on the telephone.
For the most part ADDer's do very well on the telephone. Telephone
coaching is not only convenient and time saving, but very effective.
For most people who are ADD this greatly reduces distractions,
which in turn enables better listening and focus. Phone sessions
are structured, therefore it's not merely just a "chat on the
telephone." ALC also offers "face to face" sessions
in combination with telephone coaching.

IS
COACHING PSYCHOTHERAPY?
No. Coaching
does not deal with psychological issues. Coaching is about
learning new methods and strategies to become better equipped
to deal with daily life functions. The coach and client
work together to develop systems tailored to meet individual
needs. Coaching focuses on skill development, remediation,
and implementation. For example, a coach may assist you
in setting up household management or work systems.

DOES
COACHING WORK FOR EVERYONE?
AD/HD
coaching works for those who exhibit a discrepancy between
their actual potential
and achievement. In other words they have the cognitive
ability but are unable to consistently demonstrate it
in their daily life. Their AD/HD simply gets in the way.
For example, some certainly know how to add and subtract
but can't balance a checkbook, or are a good cook, but
since they frequently forget things dinner is often burned,
or 3 hours late!
The
coachee must be one who is able to take responsibility and
avoid the blame game. It takes introspection, hard work,
and accountability. But most important, one must have the
desire. However desire alone without the proper tools is
never enough, that's where coaching comes in.
